Home | About Me | Books I've Written

Hey friend. My names rob. Nice to meet you and thanks for stopping by my website.

While I’ve got your attention, I should probably introduce myself. I’m a children’s author and illustrator. It’s a pretty cool job. I get paid to make up stupid, immature stories (mainly for my own amusement), I get to draw awful, ridiculous pictures of animals, I get to meet other authors and illustrators who I think are cool, and sometimes I even get to visit school assemblies across Australia to talk to children about how important reading and writing is. Did you know that studying extra hard and getting good grades in school is by far the coolest thing anyone can do? It’s true. School is the coolest. But anyways, yeh. That’s me in a nutshell. I make children’s books.

And guess what… making children’s books isn’t the only fun thing I like to do. Some other things I like to do include: eating pea and ham soup, playing chess, saying the word ‘wowee’, listening to jazz, watching my favourite tv show ‘Survivor’ and snorkelling in the ocean.

If I could be any animal in the entire world, I would probably be an elephant beetle. That way I could prance around the beach all day squirting salt water in my face.

If you have read all the way up to this point, there’s some blog posts below if you feel like checking them out. If you want to be double cool, you can also help me out by subscribing to my newsletter below. I promise not to spam you. I’ll just flick you an email whenever I create a new story.

My Visit to Paxton Public School

Author visits school for books in homes

Books In Homes is my favourite organisation in the world. Not only do they give much needed books to school kids, but they also send me to visit schools around NSW Australia to talk about my favourite things... reading and writing.

My visit to Kitchener Public School in NSW

I had the coolest day today. I got to visit some of the most incredible kids in Australia at Kitchener Public School in NSW. The visit was organised by the lovely people at Books In Homes Australia.

For those of you who may not be aware, Books In Homes is an initiative to get kids reading by giving away books to school kids. i.e. putting Books In Homes. Could there be any greater initiative? I think not.

So what did we get up to you ask? Well, I got to have a chat to all the kids at their school assembly (Being a Remembrance Day assembly made the occasion all the more special).

My message was pretty simple... and that message was this... Anyone can be an author if they want to be. All you need to do is make sure you pay attention in school and show respect to your teachers. Being an author is one of the funnest jobs in the world too. What could be more fun than making up weird stories?

I got to talk to them about the importance of reading and writing, I got to read them one of my very own stories AANND I got to field some very intelligent questions.

To top it all off, and to prove that anyone can be an author, the kids will all be writing their own stories and sharing it on this blog! So stay tuned to see them come through :) I can already tell that there will be several famous authors coming out of Kitchener Public School.

I would like to take this opportunity to send out a big thank you to the lovely staff and parents for being so warm and welcoming me at their school. And to all the kids, thank you for being so cool and listening to what I had to say... Remember, anyone can be an author if they really want to be. I can’t wait to read all your stories!

My Visit to Lewisham Public School via Skype

Last week I had the awesome opportunity to hold a Skype session with the students at Lewisham Public School in NSW. Thanks to the magic of technology (my phone), I was able to chat with the kids about some of my favourite books I used to read when I was in School. Alice In Wonderland being one of them... no not the movie... I’m talking about the Lewis Carol story of the same name. The one that the film was based on. Did you know that the Alice In Wonderland book was actually banned from China in 1931 for depicting animals with human characteristics?

I also got to share my book ANIMAL FRIENDS: FLOATING ORANGE CUBES (another story portraying animals with human traits) with them and did a reading of one of the Chapters. Afterwards, it was time for some Q and A and I got to answer some of the children’s questions about what it’s like being an author and how important and enjoyable it is to read books.

The event was a part of celebrating Book Week and encouraging kids to read. Marvellous event! Every week should be Book Week if you ask me. I had so much fun and can’t wait to do it again. I would just like to thanks the students for offering me such a warm reception and the extremely helpful teaching staff at Lewisham for being so accommodating.

I will indeed be sure to visit Lewisham Public School in the future to deliver their School Library a signed copy of ANIMAL FRIENDS: FLOATING ORANGE CUBES and to meet and greet the kids in person. Will be sure to post proof of this happening to my Facebook page in the not too distant future.

If you are a student, teacher, librarian, groundskeeper or member of some sort of School faculty and you would like me to hold a Skype session with your school, details on how to get in touch with me are on my contact page. I am available to chat with student all over the world using the magic of Skype. Thanks Skype.

My Visit to Beresfield Public School

Well then, another amazing afternoon of giving out children’s books was had today at Beresfield Public School in NSW. As a part of the Books In Homes initiative to provide children across Australia with more books, myself and fellow Children’s Author Katrina Mckelvey visited the school to meet the kids and chat about the importance of reading and writing.

This all took place in a special Book Giving Assembly where the kids were presented with their well-deserved bundle of books that they got to choose for themselves. It was such great fun to be apart of! I don’t think I have ever experienced more high-fives in such a short amount of time!

The kids also put on an AMAZING performance of my new favourite song of ALL TIME... ‘Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches’ (Not only are the music and lyrics great, but the dance moves that go along with the song were perfectly choreographed and hilarious to watch.).

My visit to St Dominic's

Today I had the unbelievable pleasure of visiting the St Dominic’s Centre for Hearing Impaired in Mayfield NSW to read the first chapter of my upcoming children’s book ‘Animal Friends’ at a special school assembly. I even had my own sign language interpreter!
