Sydney Morning Herald

I recently got a shout out in the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper for my self-publishing efforts to push a children’s book in to Amazon’s best-seller’s list. The article written by Susan Wyndham titled ‘Exclusive world is now an open book’ is an amalgamation of several self published Australian author interviews.

The list reads as a veritable who’s who of Australian authors and it was a huge honour for me to be included in the story. Such other authors included Ben Hourigan, Matthew Reilly, Rachel Bermingham, Kim McCosker, and Dr. Robert James.

It was especially nice to be flying the flag for self-published children’s book authors as all other writers belonged to other genres.

Excerpt from the article is as follows:
Newcastle digital communications worker Rob Towner's self-published picture book Romy's Garden Adventures: Christmas City was Amazon's No.1 downloaded children's e-book, among the top 10 children's books and top 100 titles last month.

The catch? Towner was giving it away as a pre-Christmas promotion. Now buyers have to pay $2.99 for the e-book or $11.95 for the paperback.

He has had ''a tonne of success using alternative channels of communication'', and his site comes first when you Google ''kids author''.

''It's not about making money or sales,'' he said. ''It's about the love of telling a story.''

Romy’s Garden Adventures: Christmas City, the book that featured in Amazon’s Top 100 books list, is available now. The story addressed theme’s of friendship and fun during the festive season.

You can also read the follow up book, Hannukah Antarctica exclusively for free right here. In this particular adventure, some favourite characters return for an epic southern hemisphere adventure including Colonel Mustard the Sausage Dog and Pengita the Penguin.
